Naumi Hotel Group and Material Creative approached us to create 113 artworks for their second Naumi Hotel in New Zealand. The overarching theme of the new venue was “The Silk Road” packed with unexpected modern design elements and luscious maximalism.

Our job was to conceptualise, produce and install the artworks for each room, paying homage to a timeless theme with a modern edge.

We knew immediately we were going to steer away from a traditional framed print, as the design of this new Naumi venue was too unique for something standard on the walls. Have a look at Naumi Auckland’s fit out and you’ll understand!

After a 3 month development process and 7 prototypes, we created a hand painted dynamic brushstroke (signifying a thread of silk) digitally transferred to clear acrylic glass and router cut to the brush strokes dimensions. We colour blocked the back of the acrylic with 4 different colours linking to the colour palettes of the hotel rooms. The final product conveys the ethereal lightness of a thread of silk, with bold lines and a strong presence. Most importantly, it was produced with structural integrity and longevity.
