NZ Coffee Expo 2019 Stall

Shed 10

Client: J and A Productions

Senior Art Director/ Project Manager: Hayley Brown

Junior Art Director/ Project manager: Cara Marx

We were asked by J and A
Productions to create a discussion: on ‘Man vs Machine.’. To create an interactive platform for visitors to test automated and manual coffee set-ups and decide for themselves which execution holds more value. While still promoting Hummingbird's coffee roastery.

The key challenge was to link their expo stand back to the Hummingbird Brand in an unobtrusive, engaging manner and integrate their brand message ‘A better cup for all”.

It was also important to hero the ‘Hand Crafted’ nature of Hummingbird without appearing biased within the ‘Man vs Machine competition.

To create an interactive experience, we divided the stand into 2 sections. An automated coffee machine stand on the right and a manual coffee making stand on the right. Once you've sat down  and enjoyed your brew at the communal table placed in the centre, you walk to the back of the stand where two custom made coffee dispensers wait for your vote. 1 turn of the central handle releases a single portion of coffee beans into the bottom of the dispenser which counts as 1 vote. The first dispenser to fill up its base, wins the competition.

To link the stand back to the Hummingbird brand, we displayed their coffee beans alongside the voting systems and added framed photography with overlaid text, informing the public of the company's processes and values in a subtle manner.

We designed and installed the stall with the help of Desmond Marx and Paul Ny.
